Homework
Each Monday the children will be given their
homework assignment. This work reinforces all of the skills that we are working
on in class and is essential to the education of your child. We expect
this homework to be turned in every Thursday in your child's homework notebook.
They should also be reading 15 to 20 minutes every night and returning their
planners daily with your signature showing they have read. Please work with your
child and help them so they understand how important it is to study at home as
well as at school.
Work
At Wilburn, we hold our students accountable for
their work. We expect every student to hand in his/her homework and to complete
their work assignments in class to ensure they reach thier potential. Please
impress upon your child the importance of schoolwork and help them nightly with
their homework. We want to stress how important paying attention and doing your
best work is inside the classroom and out.
Class
Incentives
We believe in positive reinforcement and incentives
in our classroom. The children made up their own class rules at the beginning of
the year and we do expect the children to abide by these rules. As a
class, if the children get a compliment while outside the classroom, they
get a scoop of ice cream put on top of their cone. If they receive 10
compliments, they will have an ice cream party. Each team can
receive tally marks each time the whole table is doing what is expected. The
team with the most tallies at the end of the week will receive candy or a trip
to the treasure box. Individually, each time I see a child being a great
citizen, I will tell them to sign up for our class pet (it's a stuffed animal).
Everyday, I pull a name out of a box and that person gets to keep our class pet
with them all day and they receive something out of the candy jar at the end of
the day.
We also have a KINDNESS MAILBOX. If a child
wants to recognize a peer for doing something nice, they write it down, put it
in our class mailbox, and then I read all of the kind words on
Friday.
If your child is not following the rules, after 2
warnings, they will be asked to sign the book. If they sign the book twice in
one day, a note will be sent home for the parents to sign. If your child
does bring home a note, please talk to them and tell them what you expect
from them in class. Children work best when the teacher and the parents are
reinforcing the same expectations.
